In “The Veldt,” the children use their advanced house to kill their parents. The motive of children who killed their parents is revenge. They are upset that their parents are closing the house and taking away what they love. They kill their parents so they can keep their house. In "The Small Assassin", a similar situation occurs. When Lucifer was born, he was taken from a place he considered home for nine months. He is taken from his mother's womb and given birth against his will. The control he had was taken away from him. He is angry at the person responsible for this: that person is Alice. He knows that Alice is the reason he is now in a world that is not as comforting as the womb: a world too big. It is possible that he considers David an accomplice in the eviction from his home. In a way, the doctor could also be seen as someone who helped Alice and David remove Lucifer from his home. In both stories, the parents either threatened to take away the home the children loved, or they succeeded in taking away that place of comfort. The children in both stories take matters into their own hands and kill their parents. The stories also have another thing in common. Children had no love for their parents. In “The Veldt,” the home has replaced the parents in matters of affection. He does everything for the children. They love home more than their parents, so when given the choice, they take it.
