More specifically, the representation of women in history. The story, since it is told by a knight, is about a hero named Theseus. After long battles, he returned triumphant to Athens with spoils of war; Hippolyta and her sister Emily. The center of the story revolves around women who don't really do anything. They are just simple objects whose sole purpose is love and beauty. Hippolyta and Emily, as I mentioned before, are spoils of war after Theseus conquers their lands. The quote “He has won the kingdom of womanhood” (738) which, as written, is closely linked to feminine attributes. Women are seen as the weaker sex, while men are portrayed as strong and courageous.
