  • Essay / The Best Analogy of the Human Mind by William Wundt

Psychology represents the field that deals with the study of "the mind" and how acquired experiences are expressed within and outside the emotional and physical body. By analogy with psychology, one of the original and passionate researchers of the mind was a mental scientist; Wilhelm Wundt (Pomerleau, 2008). One of his main identifiers as a "master psychologist" is the opening of the first laboratory dedicated to testing psychology in 1879, considered a key step in the culmination of the "science" of modern psychology ( McLeod, 2008). In his efforts, he defined the difference between the fields of psychology and previously invented philosophy. Wundt provided clearer disambiguation of the mind through systematic measurement and organized control. He studied in depth the trait of the mind's response to stimuli, while describing sensory contemplations and repulsions, thus providing sumptuous knowledge on voluntarism. The best analogy of the human mind that Wundt gave was that of introspection when describing reductionism. A person's consciousness could be fragmented down to its very constituents, which would then be constructed to form a synergy influencing behavior. The phenomenon Wundt introduced into psychology was the experimental dimension of conducting exploration in controlled contexts, presenting it as a feasible investigative science. His theory and description of the structure of thought will be further improved and promoted by a faithful student, Titchener, who deepens the theorem under a psycho-representation of structuralism (McLeod, 2008). Wundt's tool of introspection in emotional trials had been criticized over time as an unscientific module, even with the scientific methods that deployed it in the studies of later psychologists.
