Essay / Presentation of the idea for the film Torn or the Decision
Rationale: I had the idea of creating a film based on the basic structure and themes of the play Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward. This film will be a major romance and will be geared more towards audience acclaim rather than critical success. The audience we will target are young adolescent girls and women. Romantic films have always been mainly enjoyed by women. It gives them an excuse to get together with friends and dream about being swept off their feet by the man of their dreams. Women are known to be very emotional and this romantic film will make them laugh in some scenes and cry in others. They will fall in love with Cameron's (the protagonist) beautiful personality and show compassion towards the difficult decision he is facing. Girls will flock to see this movie. They will be attracted by the complicated plot and complex relationships. Adaptation: Blithe Spirit is a comic play about the writer Charles Condomine who is visited by his first wife, Elvira. Unfortunately, Charles is now married to a woman named Ruth and Elvira is a ghost. I adapted the play into a film, changing several aspects. For example, the book is set in rural London in the 1940s and the film is set in modern-day New York City. The ages of the characters were also changed to appeal to the targeted female audience. In the play Madame Arcati, the eccentric medium who summons Elvira. In the film, this character is adapted to Cameron's friend Andrew. He is similar to Madame Arcati as he gives her advice to have relationships with both Elsa and Rebecca, which is similar to the medium bringing back the relationship between Charles and Elvira. Although there are many things that have changed the themes at once middle of paper......o is found. The lyrics “Dog Days” refer to the very hot days of August when dogs lie in the heat doing nothing because of the oppression. This is the literal meaning of the phrase, but metaphorically the lines of the song "The dogs day are over" mean that moments of the past are being left behind and now is the time to act and move on. . Just like the lyrics of the song, Cameron escapes the city to find himself and move on with his life. The phrase: “Leave all your love and desire behind.” I can't carry it with you if you want to survive. means Cameron has to leave Rebecca and Elsa behind. He can't take them with him if he wants to achieve his goal of moving on. The songs motivate Cameron and the audience, telling them that the best things in life lie ahead...
