Essay / LGBT and gender equality - 1413
LGBT and gender equalityBehind every controversial conflict, there is a story that precedes it. Many arguments, protests and political conflicts take place during any disagreement. Especially if it's on a national scale. Throughout the world, today's society experiences a lot of discrimination. Arguments and disagreements are usually caused by closed-minded and opinionated people. The problems on a national scale are accompanied by several conflicts on various issues. One topic would be, for example, the legalization of same-sex marriage in all 50 states. Currently, only 17 states have legalized same-sex marriage and 33 states have banned same-sex marriage. (In America 3) In the following article, gender equality between men and women, but also with regard to gays and transgender people will be discussed. Gender equality is a well-known issue in today's society. Not only today, but also in the past. In past history, homosexuals were not considered equal and were denied their civil rights. History has shown that homosexuals have always been discriminated against. In the eyes of religious people, homosexuals are committing an act of sin because the Bible says to come out and have children and two homosexuals cannot physically reproduce together. (Nguyen, Minh T. 1) That being said, this proves why there would be religious conflict over same-sex marriage. Another issue that would extend nationally would be that of women's rights. As much as homosexuals were discriminated against, women were also discriminated against. Gender equality is above all a human right. In the past, women were discriminated against. For example, women were not allowed to vote until the 1700s. They were classified as belonging to the weaker sex and were seen as mere objects. Just like the fact that women are called "the second middle of the paper", their rights should be no different, especially since a married gay couple does not harm any other couple or their acquaintances. That being said, non-LGBT people should not only be able to marry in all 50 states, but also enjoy all the civil rights that come with a marriage and all the financial benefits that come with a legal marriage. Freedom is not only something that should be felt, but also something that should be publicly recognized. The nation is slowly progressing and changing around us. People classified as LGBT should continue to fight for their rights, just as women did in the 18th century. Sure, but slowly, progress will come and have a huge impact on our nation as we know it. All men are created equal, therefore, all men should be treated equal and afforded the same civil rights as any other American..
