To be a good speaker, we must first know how to be a good listener. There are certain rules one should follow when listening to a speech: put away your cell phone, pay attention to everything the speaker is talking about, and engage with the speaker and the topic. The first is easy to understand: the cell phone is a distraction for you and also for the speaker during a speech. Paying attention to the things the speaker is talking about is a sign of respect not only to them as a speaker, but also to you as a trained listener. A good listener must also be attentive. They make good eye contact with the speaker and show interest in what is being discussed. It is not as easy as you might think to be a good listener; it also takes practice.
