Origin of the AgencyThe Drug Enforcement Administration has a long history that marks its importance and succession. Many things happened in the late 1960s and early 1970s that shaped the following years: the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., the hippie movement, the final days of the Vietnam War, the dissolution of the Beatles, Woodstock. , the first man on the moon and the start of the Watergate scandal (just to name a few). President Richard Nixon took office in 1968, a time ripe for the end of the Vietnam War and violence across the United States due to anti-war and race riots.
