  • Essay / Analysis of the curious incident of the dog during the night.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time In this book, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Mark Haddon writes about Christopher John Francis. Boone who is an autistic child. Throughout this story, Christopher tries to solve a case involving the murder of his neighbor's poodle. Christopher wakes up one day at seven minutes past midnight and notices the next door neighbor's dog lying on the floor. So he decides to go see what happened, soon he finds a garden fork that came out of a dog named Wellington. Since Christopher likes murder mystery novels, he decided to write his own murder mystery novel starting with finding out what happened to Wellington. Throughout his attempt to solve the mystery of Wellington's murder, several hidden secrets came to light and were revealed to Christopher. Christopher is a very special fifteen year old because he is autistic and he doesn't like to be touched. Christopher also doesn't like the color yellow very much. However, he likes the color red and thinks that if he sees a red number or cars in order, it will probably be a good day. Christopher likes prime numbers, so each chapter is a prime number instead of numerically ordered. Christopher only lives with his father since his mother died two years ago. After her mother died, her neighbor, Mrs. Shears, would come and cook for them. She also cleaned and organized the house for them. Christopher and his father never kiss because he doesn't like to be touched, but sometimes they let their hands meet and touch thumbs and fingers. Christopher doesn't really like real novels; he rather likes novels and books about mathematics, science and detective novels. Christopher also has good teaching...... middle of paper...... the ending of the book seemed too abrupt to me, and could be improved by making it a little gentler. It seemed like he was rushing to finish the book towards the end of the book and quickly wrapped up the story at the end. I think it could be improved, but still well written. The story is about people who have actually been autistic in their lives. , and how their parents would react to them. Because autistic children and adults usually resisted change and did what they wanted, just like how the author portrayed Christopher as a stubborn person who did what he wanted. Haddon was able to write about autism because he has worked with autistic children before, so he decided to write about it. Overall, this was a really interesting book that is not only interesting but also provides information about it for readers who are unaware of what autism is..
