Legalizing prostitution would benefit the government and sex workers by creating tax revenue, improving medical care, and protecting prostitutes from violence. Prostitution is viewed differently in society and has many negative opinions, but no one really discusses the benefits of legalizing prostitution across America. Many people believe in the legalization of marijuana without knowing its positive and negative aspects. When you legalize prostitution, you need to look at the overall impact and influence it would have on the government. Legalizing prostitution could generate more tax revenue for the government, protect prostitutes from harm, and also reduce STD and health risks. Sex work dates back to ancient Greece, 500 BC, when women's rights were rare and women's society had few personal values. Women needed money to take care of their homes and families and few or no jobs were given to women. The lowest class of prostitutes were called Dicteriades, made up of brothel workers, the middle class of prostitutes made up of charming and accomplished musicians, singers, dancers, strippers and prostitutes. The highest class of prostitutes were called Hetairaes, which included educated and wealthy sex workers. Prostitution was highly revered during ancient Greek times and was legalized and regulated to fit the society of the time. Prostitution has modernized to accommodate the client and the sex workers. There could be benefits to legalizing prostitution. One of the benefits of legalizing prostitution is the creation of tax revenue from sales.
