The pursuit of happiness is enshrined in our Declaration of Independence as something that those who are American citizens have the right to achieve. According to a YouTube video by Yale psychologist June Gruder, Gruder says there is a negative side to happiness. She describes that too much happiness can lead to depression or mania. Valerie Alexander, author of Happiness as Second Language, compares Olympians' happiness to everyday happiness. Even though happiness is something most people try to achieve, exceeding these goals could have consequences due to the heartbreak of failure. There are many things that make people happy. Being successful is one of those goals that makes many people happy. Ever since I was young, my parents always wanted me to succeed in something. Whether it was school, church, or other life goals, there was always pressure for me to be excellent at what I did. There are many ways to be happy.
