Essay / What kind of teacher am I going to be? - 1049
IntroductionIn every class I have attended this entire semester, I have to admit that many of my preconceptions about teaching have changed dramatically. Concepts so valued by an outdated system, such as grammar, translation, behaviorism, stimuli, among others, have started to seem quite trivial when we start to focus on topics as important as motivation, for n name just one. I can only consider this course as a fresh start in all the educational topics I have thought of, with a good amount of "positive" exercises (like constant repetition "without focusing on grammar") and with perpetual discussion on various related topics. In our current educational system, contrasting what a teacher should be and what he actually acts like, new ideas have flowed in to shape an updated notion of teaching.Ideas and ConclusionsDuring this semester, while studying some texts and the ideas they contain, there is something that caught my attention and which was certainly something difficult to understand at first: I am talking about teaching courses with a completely student-centered approach. It was difficult, but also confusing, to think that to become a better teacher, you need to stop thinking about your performance and start putting your students at the center of your lessons. This can be quite a challenge, especially when the first thing we want our students to see is a prepared and confident teacher in front of the class, and yet our goal should be for students to focus on themselves, interact and communicate with each other. them rather than focusing on themselves. with the teacher. This is one of the many reasons why Harmer's text "Teachers and Learners" contains a large amount of information covering important issues in the middle of the article......perfect method/approach. Perhaps it is thanks to our society and the current state of Chile, living under a too narrow and outdated paradigm, that teachers stick to the "old" methods instead of innovating and learning the new strategies of contemporary education. (which should be a teacher's lifelong premise). If one day this were to change and our system went beyond the paradigm shift, perhaps we could contribute to the evolution of certain methods, such as CLT and its latest developments in today's societies due to technological trends of our country, or allow us to finally change the orientation of teaching towards a more constructivist orientation in which content is no longer presented as grammatical units, but according to its function. However this may happen, the possibilities for our society and our children are endless and, most importantly, they are needed as soon as possible..
