    “Disney bought Marvel!” » screams a headline on the financial page of the Nashua Telegraph. Disney, while famous for bringing wonderful stories to light, won't do as good a job as some seem to think. Most people think that Disney is a blessing for Marvel Comics, but they are sadly mistaken. Since the 1950s, Marvel Comics has built an incredible comic book and graphic novel company from the ground up. Unfortunately, Disney took what many people know and love and turned it into something different. Due to Disney's clear image of love, peace and joy and the many promises Marvel has made to fans, shareholders and certain film companies, this deal will not work and should be canceled. In 1954, Stan Lee and his partner published their first comic book which became The Avengers. More than half a century later, more than five thousand heroes have been injected into the Marvel Universe and several million additional supporting characters and villains (Clark). Disney has already made a place for itself among the legends of family cinema and history. So in the 90s when the first Blade came out, Disney started looking at it, but it wasn't until Spider-Man came out that the profits started rolling in. Marvel (Cordabo). Marvel Comics was sold to Disney for almost four billion dollars, giving them the rights to more than five thousand characters (Goldman). It may have been a good deal for Disney to receive endless amounts of story potential, but Marvel and shareholders got the end of the deal. At a press conference, Thomas O. Staggs, Disney's chief financial advisor, said, "They [shareholders] would receive thirty dollars per share in cash for each Marvel share" (Clark).
