Essay / How do violent video games affect behavior? - 1724
Violent Video games and other media such as television, films and music have a great influence on children and adolescents. What children or adolescents see is what they act or do. When they see a lot; it starts to become normal behavior or action for them. As they begin to do the same thing as what they see, they begin to see nothing wrong with what they are doing. It's like they used to say before those violent video game players lost their empathy. Children exposed to violence from an early age have a strong tendency to develop aggressive behaviors compared to those who are not exposed. Most people who play violent video games can experience both short-term and long-term effects, as reported in Video Games (2010). Short-term effects include learning to be aggressive, an increase in aggressive behaviors, aggressive thinking, and an increase in aggressive emotions. Media violence researchers believe that the latter three phenomena often occur very quickly. Now, how do they learn to be aggressive even if it's not right at the time? Well, what violent video games do is make you understand that there is a goal. For example, characters in the game want to get somewhere or want something, so they have to do whatever it takes to get what they want. This is the concept that is also understood when playing these games. So when a child or teenager wants something, they will do whatever it takes to get it, and not in a positive way.
