Economic Conservation vs. Environmental ConservationAcross the world, people are affected by laws and regulations on conservation and endangered species. Some people want the biggest house on the nicest land and have the money to acquire it, while others believe that we have developed enough and that we need to leave more land to nature. I believe that while endangered species should be protected, their protection should not change the way local populations function and interact with each other. This sparked a battle between economic growth and environmental conservation, found both locally, such as in Duxbury, Massachusetts, and around the world, such as in the mountainous region of southern Vietnam . Duxbury is a small town on the South Shore of Massachusetts, located on the coast between Boston and Cape Cod. The city's barrier beach is a long, thin peninsula running the entire length of the city's coastline. It is called a barrier beach because it essentially acts as a barrier between the mainland coasts and larger ocean waves. Access to the beach barrier, through the town, is limited to a single wooden bridge. Once you cross the bridge, you will find a beach within walking distance and a sand road that provides access to the rest of the peninsula. Along the road there are a number of drive-in beaches, which provide sand access for four-wheel drive cars, and at the far end of the peninsula are two small clusters of houses called Gurnet and Saquish. Seasonal beach permits, necessary for anyone to cross the bridge, are sold to residents and non-residents and these funds are used to maintain the ever-changing beach.
