Diabetes insipidus is the least known form of diabetes. It is often accompanied by excessive urine flow, fluid intake and increased thirst. Bedwetting due to lack of control and frequency, as well as unusual concentration of urine, are included. There are four types of ID, and each is completely different in terms of treatment and causes. Most often, the cause is a lack of vasopressin, which concentrates urine to reduce its production. It is called pituitary DI because it is usually caused by the destruction of the back of the pituitary gland. It cannot be cured, but medication can relieve the symptoms. Gestational ID is caused by pregnancy and usually resolves within a few weeks after delivery. The placenta uses vasopressin too quickly and provokes it. Symptoms are suppressed in the same way as pituitary ID. The third type of DI is caused by the failure of the kidneys to respond to the effects of vasopressin, called nephrogenic DI. It results from medications for kidney disease and cannot (or may not) be cured solely by eliminating the medication or disease. Medications may be prescribed to alleviate some symptoms. The fourth, primary polydipsia, is caused by excessive fluid intake and has two subcategories. Dipsogenic ID is the most common and usually associated with an abnormality in the brain that regulates thirst. Psychogenic polydipsia is caused by psychosomatic problems. Neither can be completely treated. Pituitary dwarfism has no established cause. Many factors can cause this, including brain tumors or could be present at birth but not passed from parent to child. Symptoms of pituitary dwarfism include an extremely slow growth rate or a flat growth rate. They are smaller than most children their age although properly proportioned, a...... middle of paper ......th article I read, I dealt with a fair man before it is diagnosed.) irritation. The most common treatment for type 2 is diet because it is most often insulin resistance. Type 1 is associated with insulin injections because the pancreas does not produce enough insulin. /www.merckmanuals.com/professional/sec12/ch151/ch151f.html http://www.acromegalyinfo.com/patient/understanding/acromegaly-symptoms.jsp?usertrack.filter_applied=true&NovaId=4029462008849712496 http://www.ncbi .nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001447/ http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0002174/http://www.labtestsonline.org/understanding/conditions/hashimoto-4.html http: //www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001398/ http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001416/
