    Chemistry is not only used in a laboratory environment, but it is used for all aspects of life. One way to gain a deeper insight into chemistry is to apply it to a hobby or something that can personally affect your daily life. One of the most important parts of my life and my main hobby is flying. Ever since I was little, I always wanted to become a pilot. I am currently working on my private pilot's license and am also attending the US Air Force Academy starting in June to study aeronautical engineering. Since flying is a very important aspect of my life and is important to me, I wanted to break it down into an aspect of chemistry. I chose this topic because flying is very important to me and it will continue to be a large part of my life as this will eventually be my career in the Air Force. Not only will my research on the topic of aviation fuel help me become a more competent pilot, but it will also help me better understand chemistry and expand on the concepts we have learned this semester. Chemistry is extremely important for planes and pilots. One of the most obvious aspects of flight that directly relates to chemistry is fuel. Without fuel, planes could not operate. The molecular formula of fuel and fuel combustion are just a few elements that play a role in how fuel makes an airplane operate. When looking at fuel used in aviation, there are many aspects to consider. First of all, there are several different types of fuel used in aviation due to the different types of aircraft. Comparing fuels can help explain why different planes use different fuels. Military, civilian, and airline aircraft all use different types of fuel. One of the most important aspects in choosing what fuel the aircraft uses at what time is the type of engine and also the type of climate in which it will fly.
