Essay / A journal on diversity and stereotypes in society
Diversity means a lot to me. Being an international student and all, of course. Since I have been here, I have grown up in many different traditions, religions and practices. Being different and unique is a good thing in this world, but sometimes it's not. Generally, people make fun of those who are different from them. Catholic social teachings relate to many different aspects of life. One of them is the inclusion of valuing human life. Another takes care of God's creation. Every person is special and different from each other; However, this does not mean that other races or cultures should discriminate against others. As Catholic social teachings claim, we must treat everyone equally, because God considers us all equal. Instead of waging war over these differences, we should embrace them, while celebrating them. However, this is unacceptable because we lose the opportunity to understand their differences. I have been stereotyped many times in my life. People often look at me strangely when I'm in town. Most people have negative feelings towards Muslims because of the way the media portrays us. I have never seen a single positive news article about Muslims in the Middle East. However, we do a lot of good things. Few people know this, but a Muslim once saved Trump from bankruptcy. I would say it was the tunnel of oppression that hit me the hardest. It really made me feel what other oppressed groups felt. Even though I have had similar experiences in my life, some of these hate groups experience it daily. I feel especially sorry for African Americans because they have suffered so much trauma. I think this group suffered the worst oppression.
