  • Essay / Dive The Joy Luck Club by Amt Tan - 1121

The Joy Luck Club (1985) was written by Amy Tan (1952). The Joy Luck Club is the story of a Chinese mother who leaves everything behind, a mother who leaves her family in China to give her children (in this case our protagonist June) a better life. Or as Amy Tan puts it: “The Joy Luck Club, about a woman whose mother has just died and who regrets never knowing who she really was. The stories poured in. This was what I felt and what I needed to say before it was too late. I had found my reason for writing. (http://www.theguardian.com/books/2013/nov/19/amy-tan-joy-luck-club-guardian-book-club)The Joy Luck Club is the story of a Chinese mother who leaves all behind her. but it's also the story of a Chinese-American woman who somehow realizes what her mother sacrificed for her. When we read this novel, one of the things we can observe is this strong relationship between mothers and daughters. This relationship begins when the girl is in her mother's womb. They are connected by the umbilical cord. They share something throughout their lives. Chinese mothers, on the one hand, are very submissive to their husbands and never challenge what their husband tells them. On the other hand, we have Chinese-American girls. They are more independent, they have the possibility of divorce if they are not satisfied with their husband. They think they have the right to express their opinion and can't if they don't want to. They think they have the right to choose. We can see it on the Queen Mother of the Western Skies. She looks in the mirror and sees her reflections. She realizes that she is part of the same spirit that extends to past and future generations. It doesn't matter if they were born in the middle of a paper... they did it so that their daughters could have a better life, so that they could find the freedom that they (the mothers) could not have in China .In conclusion, The Joy Luck Club is a story of sacrifice, of leaving things behind. It's a story of not looking back. This is the story of change in your life and in the lives of those who are beside you. The Joy Luck Club is the story of these mothers who had the courage to change their quiet lives in China, while being submissive to their husbands and their country so that their daughters would be free to choose their own destiny. Maybe what I'm about to say may seem a little exaggerated, but this is the story of the selection of Coca-Cola, this is the story of being their own owner. It's the story of choosing love over marriage. It’s a story about choosing to be yourself, no matter what society might think of them. It's the Joy Luck Club.
