    Her straight hair sways majestically with the wind, moving from left to right. As always, her pearly whites are as shimmery as her pink lipstick. She sits quietly in her blue Volkswagen Beetle. For as long as I can remember, dolls have always fascinated me. Looking back on my childhood, I see many Barbie dolls, their clothes and accessories displayed in my room. Barbies are considered the epitome of perfection for young girls. As young girls progress, we seemingly begin to imitate their characteristics. Imitating others does not only stop at humans but also at other species. For example, parrots have distinctive calls programmed into their brains. (Palmer) Domestic parrots are influenced by their owner's speech and this is when imitation begins. Parrots and maidens are influenced by their actions by others around them. Imitation derives from others and seems natural and acceptable to some members of society. Just like imitation, following the crowd is just as natural and common. Typically, when parents have daughters, the favorite toys are dolls, especially Barbies. Parents act unconsciously on this choice because of its popularity which attracts many young girls and even parents. Child A receives a toy that child B does not have. Giving in to Child B who craves Child A's toy and finally getting it. Since its release in 1959, Barbies and its popularity have spread to many young girls around the world. Growing up, my own grandmother had grown up when Mattel's revolutionary creation was released. Generations have adopted Barbies into their children's lives. However, outliers are present as others consider Barbie to be a poor role model for young girls due to her unrealistic features. ...... middle of paper ...... the hem looks older and appears more mature. (Dickens) Girls and women are all alike when it comes to why we wear makeup. To make us more attractive by strengthening our self-esteem and giving us more confidence. This isn't to say that natural beauty isn't the way to go. We could all rock red lips from time to time. Makeup never appealed to me until high school because none of my friends started wearing it until then. I remember my mother putting pink lipstick on me for the holidays and that's all the makeup memories I have from my childhood. Teresa's makeup had never caught my attention so much because I was busy admiring her features similar to mine, which many girls were able to share with their dolls. Many are overly critical of Barbies because they are more than just a doll. They are role models in the sense that Barbie is an independent doll who can achieve any career a man can achieve..
