Human trafficking is a three-step process in which victims are recruited, transported, and exploited. It is considered the most serious of all organized crimes because victims of human trafficking are continually victimized (Dammer, H. and Albanese J). Suriname is a destination and transit country for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation and forced labor. Faced with the enormous problem facing the country, Suriname does not meet the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking, but it is making significant efforts to achieve this. This is because there are more cases being prosecuted and an increasing number of child victims. However, the government has not issued any convictions for trafficking. In order to eliminate or reduce the organized crime of human trafficking, it is necessary to rigorously investigate, prosecute trafficking cases and convict offenders (Suriname. (nd)). In doing so, victims should also benefit from adequate services depending on the crime they experienced. Regarding the authorities, it is important to note that even if the victim does not wish to testify against the attacker, it is essential that law enforcement continue the investigation and prosecute.
