With today's extraordinary advancements in science, more and more efforts are being devoted to improving the quality of human life on Earth. Scientists have now applied what they have learned in the study of genetics to help modify and improve properties of plants and organisms from which we can greatly benefit. Genetic engineering can benefit humanity in the modern era because it is considered safe, capable of meeting the resource demands of an ever-growing human population and providing a potential cure for many incurable diseases and a possible extension of life. Genetically modified products that have approved for use in the international market are all considered safe. In 1995, genetically modified foods (GM foods) were approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for human consumption because they were deemed to meet the same requirements as traditional organic crops. The FDA evaluates safety assessments made by developers of genetically modified foods that include possible harm or toxicity, potential to cause an allergic reaction or allergenicity, chemical components responsible for its nutritional or toxic properties, stability chemistry of new genes. implemented, the change in the nutritional value of the food which accompanies genetic modification and the safety measures put in place in the event of adverse effects linked to genetic modification.
