Essay / Disastrous results of climate change - 728
With a rapid increase in temperatures in recent years, climate change has become a thorny issue affecting every country in the world. Global warming directly exposes populations to risks, and the trend in global greenhouse gas emissions and associated climate change will continue. (Alistair Hunt and Paul Watkiss 2011, p1). Climate change can be defined as a lasting fluctuation in the Earth's climate, especially a change caused by increasing temperature. The continued rise in temperatures is having devastating effects on urban areas. This essay describes the negative effects caused by global warming and evaluates three environmentally friendly solutions to the problems. The essay argues that climate change has caused significant damage to coasts, air quality and human health, and that these problems must be addressed immediately. Climate change has various disastrous consequences. First, global warming accelerates the rise in sea levels, causing heavy losses of human life. For example, Munbai, Sherbinin et al. (2006) cite TERI (1996) who estimates that a rise of 1 m would cause damages of $71 billion without dikes, reduced to $33 billion with dikes. Additionally, sea levels are rising faster than ever, threatening coastal cities and leading to coastal erosion. Second, polluted air is another concern. With rapid urban growth, greenhouse gas emissions released into the atmosphere mainly come from motor vehicles. Smog and thermal pollution are not only phenomena that exist in urban areas. They also affect the rural ecosystem, reducing agricultural land (Ashmore 2005) and spawning tornadoes. Third, health risks suffer from climate change. In fact, UNFPA (2007, chapter 5) states that without adequate sanitation...... middle of paper ...... international negotiations not only help these countries gain more experience, but their also enable us to better adapt to global changes. warming. In conclusion, climate change causes three major costly effects: sea level rise, air pollution, and health problems. This essay explored three solutions: reducing GHG emissions, improving infrastructure for the poor, and working together internationally to combat climate change. Adopting a new policy to place restrictions on cars or adopting a greener lifestyle to reduce car use would both benefit the environment. Additionally, providing basic services to poor residents helps protect them from climate change. Most importantly, international efforts are needed to combat climate change. Therefore, everyone should take responsibility for mitigating the effects of this global problem..
