    Millions of women face unplanned pregnancies every year, but under what circumstances should a woman be allowed to have an abortion? The practice of abortion dates back five thousand years in China. Herbal or manipulative induced abortion was used as a form of birth control in ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome. However, this practice was relatively rare due to the lack of safe medical procedures (Lansford). Over the years, different types of birth control have been used, such as: a pill, an injection, an implantation, a vaginal ring and also a patch. Pushing to make abortion illegal is increasingly discussed because women use it as a type of birth control (Guernsey 12). The growth of the fetus becomes inconvenient for the woman who must carry it, and since abortion is legal, she can go to the clinic herself and have the baby aborted the same day and be able to leave later in the day as if nothing was. In fact, forty percent of all abortions are repeat abortions (Guernsey 12). Of course, as in all situations, excuses are made when they fail to use protection, including saying that they are not ready to be a parent or that they do not want the child to be confronted to single parenthood (Guernsey 11).
