Essay / On The Frontline documentary shows the rise of ISIS
The Frontline documentary shows the rise of ISIS in Afghanistan and how far ISIS militants are willing to go to recruit young jihadists. ISIS is an INTERNATIONAL terrorist organization that uses VIOLENCE against citizens with political ideologies different from their own in order to intimidate them or coerce them into accepting their goals or ideas. The documentary takes place in Kunar province and shows the effect that ISIS has had on the people of this region. The village's highest-ranking commander, Abu Rashid, a former member of the Taliban who defected to ISIS, shows the front-line correspondent around the village introducing him to many ISIS fighters and the young people they recruit. The film features children as young as three years old learning how to properly handle weapons and STEREOTYPES of the Western world as evil. Without government assistance, these areas conquered by ISIS are rendered powerless against the rules and regulations of ISIS leaders. Many families have been separated and forced to leave their homes to escape ISIS control. These families' values of AUTONOMY are contradicted by the reality of ISIS. Speaking out to gain autonomy would lead to death. This documentary describes the devastating effects of ISIS on Afghanistan and on the people affected by ISIS's rule. ISIS and the Taliban also became enemies in an effort to achieve MILITARY PARITY. However, in this case, ISIS is not seeking military parity, in the sense of equal military strength, but superiority over the Taliban. They have already begun to capture areas of Pakistan that were previously Taliban territory. Many former Taliban members who joined ISIS in this documentary said they made headlines for their hatred of these terrorist organizations. However, young children are those most affected by ISIS's invasion. They are taught that jihad is part of their CULTURE, a way of life. For these children, academic success means successfully learning to fight jihad, use deadly weapons and, eventually, become an ISIS fighter. The DEHUMANIZATION of their enemies is facilitated by linking their culture and religion to the hatred of these individuals with contradictory beliefs. Children think that because they are Muslim and their teachers taught them that being Muslim means killing and dying for their beliefs, that is what they must do. The cycle of disinformation will unfortunately repeat itself with the next generation until there is a change in the government and education system in Afghanistan and other countries taken over by ISIS..
