Essay / Should lobbyists be more regulated? - 953
Every year, more money is spent on lobbying than on maintaining Yellowstone National Park! The total comes to about $36 million. Shocking? The shocking statistic is that the majority of this money is not spent on helping politicians in their election campaigns, but rather on lavish parties for sitting politicians by influential lobby groups. The results are obvious and paralyzing, when much of politicians' income and lavish lifestyle are supported by lobbyist groups, it is naive and childish to assume that their vote is not influenced by this fact. The point is this: placing so much value on the amount of money a company has will directly influence the morality of decision-making. For example, “going green” is no longer a moral issue preached by young, free-spirited hippies in tie die t-shirts who truly believe in the cause at hand. It became a billion-dollar business. And as such, it has spurred alliances between big business and national governments around the world. Taking advantage of the fear they help create to line the pockets of legislators and lobbyists. Whether you agree or not with the policies of our current president, the fact remains that a man who greatly benefited from pressure groups still made his first term in power a new decree restricting them any further. Obviously, you don't bite the hand that feeds you without good reason, because he sees the harm it produces. Current lobbyists will never be able to hold government employment within their sphere of influence or return to lobbying within that sphere after leaving government employment. And f...... middle of paper...... they are the ones who will ultimately have to lay the foundations to stop all this madness. So it will take a very daring man, who is not afraid of losing money, to throw the snowball, with a little luck, on a snowy hill of justice, and men of strong will capable of fight against this ever growing problem of bribery, greed and corruption. . - For years, lobbyists have held far too much power over our legislative process. A process meant to benefit the hard-working American people and not the lazy clientele of lobbyist groups who are content to enrich themselves. Lawmakers are bending to the will of big business on both the left and the right, abandoning conscious decisions to improve this great country we live in. New regulations and lockdowns will take big steps in the right direction to help put an end to an ever-growing and ever-sickening situation. problem in American politics today.
