  • Essay / Abraham Lincoln Reflection Paper - 737

As we progressed to the next grade level, we learned differently about Abraham Lincoln. We heard various stories growing up when we entered high school. Upon entering the classroom, he sat in the back and listened to the students' responses to the question, "What would Lincoln do?" ยป Likewise, they all only responded to the positive actions and assumptions that Mr. Lincoln would take, but what about his flaws? Students who didn't know how openly racist Mr. Lincoln was felt a little upset that yes, our 16th president who freed the slaves was racist. Some African Americans who admire Abraham Lincoln grew up calling him their "savior" until they heard the version of the story that is still kept from the public, inducing them to resent.
