Imagine being a three-year-old boy and being attacked by your mother because he went to the bathroom in his pants. A little boy named Noah was brutally beaten to death for doing something that any three-year-old would accidentally do. Her mother and her boyfriend had spanked and punched her until her last breath. (Carlson) This is an example of physical abuse. Physical violence is the infliction of physical injury on a person. (Martin 10) There is no main cause for this type of abuse. Physical violence accounts for 22.4% of all types of violence in the United States. (Giarding) Many physically abusive caregivers say their physical abuse is just discipline to get the child to behave. There is certainly a big difference between punishment and discipline and physical violence. (Saisan) How can physical violence be prevented? Why are these caregivers doing this to children? This is a major epidemic that must be avoided. In order to prevent children from being victims of physical abuse, everyone must mobilize the world to prevent physical abuse of children. The federally funded Third National Incidence Study (NIS-3) defines physical abuse as a form of maltreatment in which injury is inflicted. on the child by a caregiver through various non-accidental means, including hitting with the hand, a stick, a strap or other object; perforation; kicks; trembling; launch; burning; stabbing; or choking to the point of causing demonstrable harm. (Giarding) Many behavioral indicators appear in the child when this occurs. The child may suffer from withdrawal, aggression, regression, depression, and other extreme behaviors when experiencing physical abuse. Inappropriate or excessive fear of the parent or guardian appears. (Monteleone 104) Reporting abuse can save the lives of many children. Child abuse is a daily occurrence that can be prevented. Everyone needs to step up and help those who don't know any better. Getting everyone involved can help make a difference and save children’s lives. Knowing the behavioral and physical indicators of abuse is very important. New parents should follow simple new parent programs so they can save themselves a lot of trouble and maybe even a life. Follow prevention measures against physical violence. Reporting any signs of abuse is very important and should be done regardless of the situation. Physical violence against children is getting worse. Everyone must help prevent this epidemic.
