The first settler arrived in America seeking freedom and refuge from religious persecution in 1607. Why have so many expectations that cannot be met? Revoking DACA would cheapen everything America stands for. The media has a great influence on the way people think. Television manipulates people's perceptions in comedic or romantic ways. For this reason, negative images of immigrants are presented in an underhanded way, without us even noticing. Mainstream media portrays immigrants as greedy, coming to America only to steal jobs and “marrying to get a green card.” (Source B, Perez-Zerb) Characters are developed based on stereotypes such as Latinas being maids or Asians being nerds who ironically know kung fu in times of distress. Not to mention the lack of adequate representation of people of color and common cases of whitewashing in Hollywood. Latinos had to create their own awards show, American Latino Media Arts (ALMA), to properly promote themselves. Even the so-called credible media that people start their morning with is biased. Never has a film won a Grammy Award about a young immigrant arriving legally in America.
