  • Essay / The Life of Martin Luther King Jr. - 641

At noon on January 15, 1929, a man of great pride, diligence, and intelligence would be brought into the world. When his time came, he would display the image of humanity living, loving and coming together as brothers and sisters under God, to counterbalance the inequality ingrained in society for hundreds of years. He was a smart man, really smart, but overall he was very driven, driven and willing to work for what he wanted. He embodied the mindset that anything was possible if you put your mind to it. Follow your dreams and they will come true. This man was Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Jr. was named after his father Michael Martin Luther King Sr. When King Jr. was born, his birth name was Michael. His father later changed it and his son's name to Martin in honor of the German reformer Martin Luther. King Sr. was a poor boy, working with his grandfather until age 16 as a sharecropper just outside Atlanta, in the small town of Stockbridge, Georgia. He moved to Atlanta with almost nothing besides a pair of shoes and an education through 6th grade. Later, he meets Alberta Williams, the minister's daughter. One Thanksgiving Day in 1926, Sr. married the love of his life. Shortly after their installation, King Sr. was already dedicated to the church where he had been elected pastor; taking over the duties of the previous pastor who died of a heart attack in 1931. He was also noted for being an equal rights activist.King Sr's. His wife, Alberta Williams, worked as a teacher, but soon after her marriage she decided to give up teaching and devote herself fully to the Baptist Church. She also took responsibility for supporting the Women's International Peace League... middle of newspaper...... Luther King Jr. was greatly influenced by the Rosa Parks scandal, leading him to create the Montgomery bus boycott. For those who may not know, this was a mass protest that lasted 13 months. During this demonstration, laws were flouted, fights broke out and many people and officials were injured. It became an ongoing problem that many saw no end to. State government officials felt it was time for a change. This ultimately resulted in the end of racist policies. It took time and effort and shows us a remarkable example of social reform. While this all sounds nice, it wasn't easy and frankly, it was quite difficult, I mean think of all the people who grew up understanding that separation of races was a good thing. What I'm trying to say is that it was difficult to rewrite a way of life and change one's mind when seeing the hardships imposed on black people..
