The introduction and conclusion were the most serious omission I used to make. When I wrote an essay, I simply introduced some background information about the topic at the beginning of the essay and concluded the main ideas at the end. In this English class, I learned that a good introduction should provide context, give the reader a clear idea of what the article is about, and indicate the thesis being advanced; an effective conclusion should not only include the main points, but also include an in-depth perspective on the topic. For example, in the first paragraph of my position essay, I introduce my topic "privacy issues" by allowing the reader to imagine that if we lived in a place where there was no privacy, I would provide general information about privacy and I would express my opinion. position on the subject. Additionally, at the end of my Compare/Contrast essay, I present my deep understanding of gender diversity and bias and offer some suggestions for future action. These two essays in my portfolio prove my great improvement in writing the introduction and conclusion. This English course prepared me not only for academic writing, but also for writing in my future career. I will continue to practice my writing skills by reading and writing more articles.
