Groups and Teams Handout A group of people can become a successful team by achieving accomplishments with personal satisfaction. These small groups of people can be made up of diverse races, cultures, genders, ethics, religions, personality traits, and behaviors. Team members can pool their skills to accomplish a common goal or task. High-performing teams have core values; clear performance objectives; the right mix of skills; and diverse creativity (Hunt, J., Osborn, R., Schermerhorn, J., 2005). Open systems, group input factors, group dynamics, and inter-group dynamics are some sources that can help a group become a high-level player. performance team. These high-performing teams can achieve more effective and efficient productivity when they collaborate in an open system. This system allows all members to add their creativity to the team. Creativity generates unique and innovative responses to problems and opportunities (Hunt, J., Osborn, R., Schermerhorn, J., 2005). Group contribution factors are team members' brainstorming ideas to accomplish and perfect the task. Group dynamics are how members interact successfully to accomplish the task. Inter-group dynamics are the energy and skills of each individual that help the team function as a group. There may be some weaknesses in teamwork, such as inter-group competition; difficult interaction; diverse demographics; and lack of communication. When team members compete with each other, productivity can decrease because they are not working together. Some members may have difficulty interacting or working together, which can cause conflict within the team. Confusion can hinder the progress of teamwork. Demographic diversity can sometimes prevent a team from coming together, but there are other ways such as communicating via conference call, Internet chat, and email. Lack of communication can cause interactions and conflicts between team members, which can slow down engagement productivity. Team building can help improve group performance by evaluating group performance and implementing suggestions for improvement..
