  • Essay / Emerging Adulthood: The Developmental Period - 1578

Emerging adulthood represents the developmental period from the late teens to the 20s, focusing primarily on 18-25 year olds. This is the period when people begin to explore and realize the capabilities of their lives, which then helps them characterize themselves as adults and no longer teenagers. This psychology topic fascinates me because it is a stage that every adult has experienced, it is interesting that we all experience it differently depending on our life circumstances and demographics. It is interesting to see the changes over the years and eventually it will be easier for young people to explore these years as more and more young adults are going to school these days. This teaches me a better understanding of why emerging adults navigate adulthood. But is emerging adulthood a period that every young person experiences throughout their life, in all cultures and at exactly the same ages, or are there restrictions on young people experiencing this emerging phase. Marriage meant that a person was entering adulthood, this usually happened between the ages of 16 and 18 for women and between 18 and 20 for men. This small window before marriage only allows for a period of adolescence but not the emergence of adulthood. This therefore means that the emergence of adulthood is not a universal phase but a phase that is only experienced by people who delay taking on adult-type responsibilities until adolescence. Because some countries are highly industrialized, the requirement for higher education is heightened, with many emerging adults staying in school until their early to mid-twenties to obtain gainful employment. This allows them to explore relationships and different jobs before considering taking on the responsibility of marriage, childbearing, and financial support for a child. Although marriage is primarily calculated by some, there are cultures such as the Mormon Church that have a short period of emergence. Due to cultural beliefs, there is no premarital sex and the goal is usually to have large families. Pressure is therefore put on young people to marry early and procreate, because this is what is expected of them by both their families; it is the increase in the number of well-paying jobs that require young people to have higher education in developing countries that are improving and integrating into the global economy. Technology is another factor that is becoming more and more prevalent in these underdeveloped countries. It is less and less common for young people to go to work in agriculture to meet the family's financial needs, as many parents prefer to support and facilitate their children's education. All these factors can eventually open up full possibilities for more and more emerging adults to experience life and explore their independence, as countries become wealthier, there is a good chance that more young people can go to school, move into a dormitory and lead a semi-independent life. until they reach adulthood. This can benefit our future generations and potentially increase life expectancy and become attainable adults who live longer and prosperous lives. This will be a new development for the youth of today and tomorrow, this means more educated people, which calls for a change in the way our jobs, our economy and the development of our countries can be. More and more young people will explore their horizons and develop themselves to give the best
