FLA is committed to a rigorous academic environment focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The school's mission and vision empowers young men to reach greater heights in their academic studies and equips them with the tools necessary to compete in a globalized society. The motto of the Leadership Academy is “Where young men rise to great heights.” The ethnicity of students is diverse, with the largest population being African American. This is a private charter school that teaches all boys in grades 6-11 and the data collected is from the 2016-2017 school year. In Table I, there are a total of 386 men attending FLA, most of whom are predominantly African American. African Americans make up 78% of the population, followed by Hispanics who make up 12% of the population. There were other populations that made up the demographics, such as Asians, Whites and others, with a very low percentage. Compared to the majority African-American population, the primary language spoken was English. English was the language spoken by 85% of the population, Spanish 13% and other languages 2%. There were a total of 25 students who spoke both languages Spanish and English and other students spoke languages such as French and Chinese. Being an all-male school, gender demographics revealed these statistics. The predominant religion was Baptist with a total of 82% of the student population. Other religions were Catholic with 15% of the student population, followed by Protestant with 1% of the student population and other religions made up 0.2% of the student population. Community data was also analyzed. The school is located in the East Point Park neighborhood, where the race is predominantly African American at almost 71% of the population (US Census Bureau, 2017). Compared to other neighborhoods in the area, East Point Park has a very high percentage of African Americans with a low percentage of Hispanics at 18.6%, Whites at 7.1%, Asians at 3%. .4% and others follow at 0.2%. The language spoken in this community is primarily English by approximately 73% of the population. Community members also spoke other languages at very low percentages, such as Spanish at 16.8%, French at 8.5%, Chinese at 1.1%, and others at 0.4%. %. The area is considered a low-income neighborhood, with 32% of its population earning less than $25,000 per year. An unemployment rate of 5.6% may contribute to the percentage of low-income households. Most people in the community do not have a college degree, most are recent high school graduates. Males make up the majority of the population in the East Point Park community. The total population of East Point Park is approximately 16,131 people, of which 51% are male and the remaining 49% are female.
