Two of the most difficult times in an individual's life occur during the teenage years and late adulthood. These times in a person's life can be overwhelming and stressful, as a person tries their best to grasp the changes happening before their eyes. One of the major problems that teenagers face is peer pressure. Many teenagers may dress a certain way or listen to certain types of music simply because they think it will help them be accepted. In fact, teenagers feel like they have an imaginary audience and need to be at their best at all times so that their popularity is not affected. In addition, adolescents are confronted with the conflict between identity and role confusion developed by Erikson. They must not only develop a sense of who they are, but also their place in their culture.
