  • Essay / Rape Culture and Rape Culture - 731

A subculture is a cultural group within another cultural group that is usually more dominant. People who actively stand up against rape culture and patriarchal beliefs constitute a subculture within society. People who participate in these subcultures are condemned and belittled by people who still agree with the dominant culture. The very purpose of activists and subcultures is to form and project new ideologies. An ideology, in its most basic sense, is a belief system that usually forms a political theory. This creates chaos within a normally easy-to-manage cultural hegemony, especially in the 21st century, because these activists have the same tools available to mainstream society. The most important being the media, this use of the media is how Walter Benjamin thought the media should be used for political purposes.
