The cause The immediate cause of this behavior was the need of young people to rebel against the overly conservative American society. This rebellion led to a sense of freedom for young adults, which caused them to continue acting in unintelligent ways. After a short period of time, adolescents in their late teens simply had no place if they did not participate in the evil acts. Substance abuse has quickly become a way of life for many young adults. As a result, this unfit behavior continues to this day. For new students, acting in a way their parents would disapprove of is something of a womb break. This “Mom can’t control me now” attitude is a major contributor to substance abuse among undergraduates. These students have learned throughout their lives exactly what not to do; but now they have the opportunity to decide for themselves. Naturally, late adolescents are intrigued by what was forbidden to them in previous years. This inquisition is the result of their inexperience. The increasing severity of parents greatly harms the maturation of adolescents. As a result, adolescents enter the later stages of their growth at the college level rather than at the high school level. The university campus provides a vast learning environment in which students easily free themselves from parental limitations. The student's perplexity intensifies as the guiding role of the parent is omitted. Naïve young adults, now forced to draw their own conclusions, often make poor choices. This drug addiction phase could easily be erased with the next wave of students. Students who abuse alcohol and drugs are intelligent and differential students. Their purity lies within but is overcome by their environment. These students have the necessary principles but lack the confidence to stand on their own.
