CHAPTER 1INTRODUCTIONTraffic research aims to optimize the movement of people and goods. As the number of road users is constantly increasing and the resources provided by current infrastructure are limited, intelligent traffic control will become a very important aspect in the future. There are, however, some limitations to the use of intelligent traffic control. Avoiding traffic jams, for example, is seen as beneficial for both the environment and the economy, but better traffic flow can also lead to increased demand. There are several traffic simulation models. In our research, we focus on optimizing the traffic light controller in a city using an IR sensor and developed visual monitoring using the PIC16F887 microcontroller. Traffic light optimization is a complex problem. Even for single junctions, there may be no obvious optimal solution. With multiple intersections, the problem becomes even more complex, because the state of one light influences traffic flow to many other lights.
