In act three, scene three, Desdemona agrees to speak to Othello on Cassio's behalf) As Desdemona and Cassio discuss Cassio's loss of rank and confidence in the eyes of 'Othello. Iago draws Othello's attention to the discussion taking place between Cassio and Desdemona. Iago knowing very well why the discussion is taking place. Iago implies that the couple seem to spend a lot of time together. Iago sows doubt in Othello's mind. Othello begins to wonder if Iago's suspicions are true. Continuing into Act Three, Scene Three, Othello feels the beginnings of a headache. Desdemona offers Othello a handkerchief to ease the pain in Othello's forehead. The handkerchief is a gift from Othello to Desdemona as a symbol of the love shared by Othello and Desdemona. In Othello's pain, the handkerchief falls from Othello's hands and Emilia steals the handkerchief. Iago uses the characters in the play as pawns, including his wife Emilia. Jealousy is the fuel and the handkerchief is the spark. With the handkerchief in Iago's possession, Iago can continue to weave the web of lies and deception. Iago plans to leave the handkerchief in Cassio's lodgings to further support suspicions of Desdemona's infidelity. Cole/5Iago leaves the handkerchief at Cassio's place of residence as a clue. The clue to prove that Desdemona was unfaithful. Othello asks Desdemona for the handkerchief. The handkerchief had been given to Othello's mother by an Egyptian charmer. Desdemona is unable to present the handkerchief to Othello. With the romance in Roderigo, Iago can be controlled into thinking that Othello and Cassio's downfall would get Roderigo Desdemona. Roderigo is Iago's biggest pawn. And probably the saddest character in the entire drama. Roderigo truly believes in Iago and when Roderigo was mortally wounded by Iago. Roderigo finally realizes the truth, Roderigo is Iago's pawn. All three characters are consumed with jealousy for different reasons. And the reasons for the characters' jealousy contrast. But the jealousy of the three at the end of the tragedy is comparable because jealousy becomes a means of the character's disappearance...
