  • Essay / Atlanta Braves Get New Stadium - 1052

Change is often met with opposition, skepticism and even euphoria. All three of these sentiments were expressed with the announcement that the Atlanta Braves Major League Baseball team is looking for a new stadium to begin its 2017 season. The Braves' current stadium is known as the Turner Field, which was completed in 1996 to host the 1996 Summer Olympics. It is scheduled for demolition in 2017. The Braves announced they are continuing construction of a new stadium in Cobb County, located in Cobb County. northeast suburbs outside Atlanta. The location of Cobb County's new stadium heavily outweighs the downtown location of Turner Field. The proposed location in Cobb County is between Interstate 75 and Interstate 285 and will provide multiple access points to the stadium. There are many highways and secondary roads that will reduce traffic congestion before and after the game. The proposed land for the new stadium is approximately 60 acres. However, the stadium will only occupy about 15 acres. The remaining 45 acres will be used for parking and mixed-use development. The site will accommodate approximately 6,000 parking spaces and the mixed-use development will include shops, restaurants, bars, residences, offices and hotels. The 60-acre complex is designed to entertain sports fans all day long, not just for the game. If additional parking is needed, there are approximately 30,000 parking spaces in close proximity to the proposed stadium location that will have access to a traffic shuttle. The total cost of the Cobb County stadium project is estimated at $672 million, which will include both public spending and private funds. Public funds will come from the middle of paper......this could derail the start of construction. As noted at the beginning, change is often met with opposition, skepticism, and even euphoria. Opposition and skepticism will be overcome. In 2017, the Atlanta Braves and metro Atlanta fans will be euphoric on opening day at their new Cobb County Stadium. “The Atlanta Braves are getting a new stadium and yes, it’s ridiculous.” Atlanta Cities Square Matters (2013): n. page. -Mark Byrnes.
