The First Crusade took place between 1096 and 1099 in the Middle East and it was a very dark place for the Jewish people living at that time in history. A crusade is a holy war or enthusiastic movement for social, political, or religious change. In the book The Chronicles of the First Crusade edited by Christopher Tyerman, he depicts the anger of Christians towards the Jewish people after the crucifixion of Christ. The Jews were blamed for the death of Jesus and the Crusaders decided that, under God, they must pursue the Jews for not believing in Christ. Another reason behind the First Crusade is that Peter the Hermit, with the help of Pope Urban II, declared the goal of allowing Christians access to the holy lands, otherwise known as Jerusalem, which at that time era was a place of ungodly practices. The Crusaders were merciless, killing men, women and children for what was initially in the name of God and they killed for Christ's "vengeance" because that was what God wanted. At first, the crusaders were motivated by religion, but as time and battles progressed, the armies' mentalities began to change due to the number of massacres and killings of people.
