Essay / The movie Tokyo Story - 1249
The movie Tokyo Story is about family relationships, how children forget their loved ones, especially their parents, and go about their daily lives. The film tells the story of an old married couple who plan to visit their children, whom they have not visited in a very long time. They realize that their lives are coming to an end and want to see what their children have done for themselves in their lives. The couple goes to Tokyo, a city in Japan. After arriving in Tokyo, the parents are welcomed warmly, but treated normally, and the children are constantly busy with their work, their present life appointments and have no time to spend with their elderly parents. . The elderly couple were sent on sightseeing tours of Tokyo, particularly to places unsuitable for elderly visitors. The parents did not receive due respect from the children, for example when the son bought cake, the daughter-in-law did not allow them to eat it because she felt it was too much expensive for them to have it. Their other daughter-in-law, a widow, was the only family member who accepted their analysis gracefully into her home and was kind to the couple. After their departure for Tokyo, in a crowded train station, the mother falls ill and dies a few minutes after returning home. The film's story consists of a social observation of Japanese middle-class family life and an analysis of human mentality and modernity. The film did not focus on Japanese culture, but overall it shows how the younger generation perceives and treats their elders. , especially parents. The film explains that children don't like their parents once they become mature enough and start earning money. Children develop American life by living independently of their parents. In the daily lives of ordinary people, Sensation of a...... middle of paper ......ra which adds to the naturalism and reality of the film. These invisible techniques are products of cinematography, direction and editing which emphasize the external elements of the film without disturbing the diegesis. Finally, I felt that this film is a great example of Ozu's style as a director and reflection. of the attitude of the young generation of the 1950s, particularly Japanese culture. The story of Tokyo deals with the different ways in which the two old people and the four young people deal with different types of weather. Some parts are extremely emotional and can suggest ideas on multiple levels of thought. The story is intentionally simple in that it includes the necessity of the formal system and the need to guide the direction of the film. Deeper meanings and observations arise throughout the evolution, transition, and non-diegetic portions of Tokyo Story..
