Essay / Pioneers of the Renaissance - 867
The progress that followed the Middle Ages brought a whole new world filled with inventions and complex ideas. The adoption of new knowledge and improvements can only be summarized as the path to Renaissance. This new era has paved the way for positive change. The pioneers of the Renaissance took the first steps in the development of the new age by transforming certain aspects of daily life by creating technological advancements and ideas, thereby opening a new frontier for future inventions. Working on farmland was common among the average Renaissance citizen. One of the most significant inventions was the new type of plow. Farming materials were a constant struggle to use and maintain, but with this new period, farming on heavy, clayey soils improved with stronger equipment. The newly invented plow contained metal blades and consisted of three parts that cut, passed, and turned the soil into turf (MacEachern 5). This efficient machine allowed farmers to get more produce with larger harvests (MacEachern 6). To increase crop sizes even further, farmers extended the life of their crops with a new irrigation system. “Floating meadows,” which involve flooding entire fields, were used by English farmers as early as the Renaissance to protect against frost and river mud (Grendler 117). Agricultural methods were probably improved by a simple change from an old idea. Having the new plow, it required a team of horses or oxen to pull it (MacEachern 5). This new use of the horse guided the creation of horseshoes. The invention of the horseshoe and other supplies meant that horses were used more efficiently (MacEachern 6). Travel and transportation could be described, at the beginning of the Renaissance, as trials and...... middle of paper. ....rare scenes in public squares” (Netzley 78). William Shakespeare came up with a design for theaters. He included a plan including a three-tiered stage approximately forty feet wide (Netzley 79). The lower level of the floors was divided into two parts. This new design created an uninterrupted room due to fewer changes in decor. Art, music, and entertainment have all seen improvements to enhance the experience. Discoveries were made very often during the Renaissance, most were discovered by accident or through testing and manipulation instead of the typical practice of applying scientific philosophy (Grimble 6). The advent of printing and papermaking changed the way books were used. Ideas and thoughts gained momentum with the introduction of paper making and book printing. “Books were produced cheaply, allowing new ideas to spread quickly” (Grimble 6).
