Essay / Lean In - 727
As a woman who has endured many personal struggles, setbacks, family tragedies, but still clings to her dreams and the need to feel accomplished, I saw myself searching of a book in which I can identify and come away with lessons that could help me persevere in the goals I have set for myself, without discounting my past experiences as failures and tragedies, but as stepping stones towards personal development, maturity and experience of what is happening in my life NOW. Nowadays if you want to know more about something you are told to "Google" and I certainly took that step when thinking about what book I would use for this research and came across this book by Sheryl Sandberg : Lean In. This immediately caught my attention because on the cover it says “Women, work and the desire to lead.” It was something I imagined myself doing from a very young age, but stopped somewhere along the way. As a woman, a wife, a mother of two wonderful boys, returning to college full time after so many years and working full time... time, you face so many challenges, especially as a woman, and I need to know how other women who have families, careers, and leadership positions are able to juggle and balance it all in today's world. It is necessary to become aware of the challenges, struggles, internal and external barriers that women face daily in the so-called "man's world" and to understand how to cope with the expectations imposed by society and, above all, , to yours. I expect to recognize and remember that by going within and giving our all, we can achieve greatness. That we hold the keys that can unlock a world of opportunity, but that this four letter word is holding us back; FEAR and that of Lean ...... middle of paper ...... phenomenon which occurs in both men and women and which is “imposter syndrome”. According to an article in the New York Times, social psychologists conducted a study in which they found that "imposter syndrome" is experienced more by women than men. This is described as a feeling of being fake, a fraud, a feeling of not being capable or not having confidence in oneself. As if fear was not enough, another problem women face is that they underestimate themselves and their abilities to succeed and in doing so, the feeling described previously comes into play and finds itself once again another reason not to lean in and stand aside. It's about women understanding that we need to stop doubting our abilities, underestimating our strengths and knowledge and be more self-confident and take risks to be able to access positions of power..
