Essay / The first artificial means of transportation - 998
It's just a normal day. You wake up, get ready, and rush out the door. A daily occurrence, but without a simple object, this daily routine would be radically different. Think about what you would do on a cold, snowy day or a wet, rainy day without shoes. What would you do when working in a grassy, rocky yard without shoes? The lack of shoes is immediately felt when you walk on icy ground or step on a nice thorny bush. But then, you say. After all, shoes take us almost everywhere we go. There are just entire stores dedicated to them. Shoes may seem so insignificant, but they are a window to human progression, creativity and taste. A shoe is classified by Dictionary.com as “an external covering for the human foot, usually…”. . . composed of a. . . stiff or heavy sole and a lighter upper ending a short distance above, at, or below the ankle. The shoes come in all colors, such as white, black, red and blue; and sizes, ranging from baby shoes to size 15, and even larger. They also come in a multitude of styles, from formal to sporty to home, and in shapes including square, round, slim, wide and even fitted to the feet. There are many varieties of shoes, such as sneakers, high heels, tennis shoes and slippers. For almost any occasion, a shoe can be the finishing touch to an outfit. Shoes complement a dancer's uniform, give a businessman a professional look, protect a boatman from the cold, and protect a cowboy from wear from the saddle or cactus needles. Imagine how ridiculous a banker would look in sneakers or how badly a boatman would behave in slippers. We know that shoes have been used since the beginning of human history. These shoes ...... middle of paper ...... people: they allow the runner to run faster, the dancer to dance longer, the aspiring job seeker to look better and 'get the job, and to the hiker safer hiking. Yet shoes are so common, so everyday, that few people really think about them except to choose which pair to buy. Most people never think of their shoes as art, but in reality they are. Just as a painting expresses the feelings of the artist, shoes reveal the personality of the wearer. The shoes may appear so lifeless, but they offer insight into the progression, creativity, and tastes of the wearer in particular and the human race in general.Works CitedDictionary.com. Shoe.
