  • Essay / One World Trade Center - 1591

IntroductionOne World Trade Center (WTC) is the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere measuring 1,776 feet tall. The built result sets new standards of design, construction and prestige. Its beauty in the magical landscape of New York makes it an icon. It is the most recognized and sought-after office address in the world. In this essay, I intend to demonstrate that the social, political and economic status of society significantly affected the production of this building, for good. Making the building one of the best skyscrapers in the world. First, I will provide a brief timeline of events beginning with the collapse of the first WTC through the construction of the new WTC. I will examine the political effects on the building, then social and economic. In conclusion, I will say how and to what extent all these problems have affected the built performance. On September 11, 2001, a catastrophic terrorist attack took place, destroying the WTC Twin Towers. From 2001 to 2014, the reconstruction of the World Trade Center produced pain, sweat and politics. In 2001, the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation was created to organize the reconstruction of the World Trade Center. In 2002, the first designs for the WTC site were completed and displayed to the public. They were all rejected because they weren't inspiring. Later that year, a competition was held for architects from around the world to submit designs for the site. In 2003, David Childs was chosen to design the WTC, officially known as FreedomTower. Daniel Libeskind is designing the site master plan as well as an initiated design of One WTC. At the end of 2003, the plans for the building were revealed. In 2004, Mayor Michael Bloomberg placed a 20-ton granite slab in the middle of a sheet of paper. In conclusion, the designers and builders of the tower building have an undesirable job: to create a functional, modern, durable and unique building. At the same time, it honors the memory of those who died in and around the buildings that previously stood there. Although sustainable eco-friendly features have been criticized for being too expensive, they will do more than just save water, electricity and emissions. They and the building's grace will inspire a generation of green, safe skyscrapers for the 21st century. This building has become one of the safest, most environmentally friendly and most expensive buildings ever built, but as critics criticize it for various reasons, one cannot take away the determination of political, social and economy with which the designers and workers created such a beautiful building with great meaning.
