Developing Tourism in AustraliaEverything has changed over the last century, especially tourism. Australian tourism has undergone rapid change due to the impact of economic, social, demographic, technological structures and the political climate. This essay will focus on the evolution of Australian tourism in the early 20th century compared to that of households in the early 21st century. In the early 20th century, based on Burton's four phases of tourism participation (Weaver and Lawton, 2010), Australia was in the first phase. First of all, it is an economic factor. At that time, almost all countries in the world were agrarian, subsistence, and pre-industrial. There was a big gap between the poor and the elites. Therefore, based on worldview, Australia is like the rest of the world. There was no participation in tourism because there were a large number of poor people. They produced just enough food for their own consumption and neither exported nor imported these products, so they made no money. They had no means available to pay for their trip. Only elite people can travel at present, they have time and money to spend on travel. Second, the social factor is another factor that has impacted tourism demand. In an agrarian country, farmers had to work hard every day to maintain their farm, they had no free time to leave their place and visit another place. Then one of the factors is demographic. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the population was 3,773,801 people in 1901. Weaver and Lawton stated that "during the first stage (which roughly corresponds to Burton's first phase), populations are maintained at a stable but low level in the long term due to the balance between the high gross birth rate...... middle of paper ...... pact for the development of tourism in Australia.
