Entwistle Book ReviewAlesia M ShawLiberty UniversityIntegrative Approaches to Psychology and Christianityā€¯ chronicles the integration of Christianity and psychology. According to the author Entwistle (2010), he discusses integration and how they are combined. The book of God's word refers to the Bible and the book of psychology is the work that reflects his deeds and is written throughout the work of God. In the text, he included five different models of integration which are: enemies, spies, colonialists, neutral parties and allies as subjects of one (p. 154). The enemies model takes a stance on the psychology of human beings versus the theology of human beings, which is why this model views Christians and psychology as enemies that should be separated from each other. The spies model, unlike the enemies model, does not reject religion, but only takes what works for them. Psychology would enter the Christian world and take some of the religious concepts that they thought would work well for them. Just like a person would take part of the Bible and read what they believe applies only to them. The colonialist model has a superficial knowledge of psychological theories, the settler makes no significant effort to understand how psychology and Christianity both express truth or how they can both have a broader picture of how human nature works (p 137-145). From my understanding, Entwistle (2010) believes that psychology works well with religion as long as the religion obeys or is superior to psychology. The neutral party model states that as long as they respect each other's boundaries, there should be a certain level of respect. This allows psychological theories and findings to exist on their own...... middle of paper ...... properly. Third, I need to continue my training in Christian counseling and use what God has installed in me. I believe that when you apply your faith to Christianity and psychology, it will benefit you as well as your client by allowing the Holy Spirit to use and guide you as you counsel. It is also important to know that Christianity and psychology are both part of divine truth to help others as well as ourselves. We are all put on this earth to serve and serve those who also need to be served. When the two books are integrated, we should know that we should not use them separately because they both complement each other and can help reach people of faith as well as those who are not believers.
