The Keystone XL Pipeline is having a negative impact on the environment and the people thereinThe Canadian Keystone XL Pipeline is harmful and should not be encouraged by anyone , in particular by the Canadian government. Keystone XL is harmful to the environment surrounding the Keystone XL pipeline. Also should not be encouraged as Keystone XL may cause pollution. Finally, the Keystone XL pipeline should not be encouraged because the Keystone XL pipeline negatively affects the health of citizens. Canada's Keystone XL pipeline should not be encouraged because it has a negative impact on the environment, causes pollution and harms the health of citizens. Canada's Keystone XL pipeline should not be encouraged because it has a negative impact on the environment. First, the pipeline has an impact on the environment because it could leak oil into the environment. As of June 2012, the Keystone Pipeline, the pipeline built before the Keystone XL, has leaked at least 14 times since its launch in June 2010 (Potter, p. 5). Given that the original pipeline leaked 14 times in two years, there is little chance that the pipeline will not leak oil into the environment, as this harms the environment surrounding the pipeline, the Keystone XL should not be encouraged. . Second, the pipeline has an impact on the environment because it is close to major water supplies. The Keystone XL is close to the Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer which "provides drinking water to more than 12 million people living in 60 counties", and the Ogallala Aquifer which is "the largest aquifer in the western region of North Americaā€¯ (N/A, p.1). This means that if oil leaked into the aquifers, millions of people would end up in the middle of paper...... uh. The Keystone XL contains pollutants that will be released into the air and increase the risk of cancer (Barron-Lopez p. 1). Due to the fact that Keystone XL increases the risk of cancer; a disease already almost impossible to cure, the Keystone XL pipeline should not be encouraged. Second, the Keystone XL pipeline will negatively impact citizens' health because the pipeline crosses major waterways. The Keystone XL crosses waterways and if the waterways are contaminated, the health of citizens who rely on the waterways will be negatively affected by the consumption of the contaminated water (Bruno p. 7). Since building the Keystone XL could cause the health of citizens who rely on water near the pipeline to deteriorate, the Keystone XL should not be encouraged. Finally, the Keystone XL will negatively affect the health of citizens
