introductionConformity is the process of understanding the influence of the majority and is defined by David Myers (1991) as a change in behavior or belief resulting from actual group pressure or imaginary.Conformity is a type of psychological behavior. the behavior often occurs in the group. Moreover, the behavior always occurs in people's lives or studies! There are 3 types of response to social influence in the psychological zone. The first is conformity, the despised is identification, the last is internalization. Conformity is publicly conforming to the behavior or opinions of other members of a group, but privately maintaining one's own opinions. For example: When meeting a group of friends who support a particular basketball team, the person may not reveal that you support another, even if asked directly. Identification is adopting the opinions or behavior of a group both public and private because you value membership in that group. For example: When people from far away move to college, they may begin to question the lifestyle they had previously taken for granted. New students often adopt the dress enthusiastically and behave again when younger students do. Internalization is a conversion or actual changing of private opinions to match those of the group. For example: a person seeking greater meaning in life may be influenced to convert to a religious faith if the member of that faith seems capable of providing the answers sought. There may be two reasons why people comply. The first is normative social influence and information social influence. Normative social influence is a type of social influence leading to conformity, people think others...... middle of paper ......e and at what level they confirm. They also want to check how quickly people comply and at what standard they are doing their job. Zimbardo just wants to see that in the American prison, the brutality was due to the guards or the prisoner. For this, they created an artificial prison, and hired some people to act as prisoners and others were imprisoned for a few days. Then the guards started punishing the people who were in prison. and the punishment was getting worse and worse every day, Zimbado just wanted to see that the hired guards complied to that standard. for them to obtain information. the prisoners thought they were in a real prison. the result was normative influence. because the prisoners want to quit their jobs because the punishment was getting worse every day, so Zimbardo discovered that at some level everyone complies.
