  • Essay / Drama GCSE Unit One Theme: Capital Punishment - 1396

Guilt: For the first performance, the stimulus was the word 'guilt'. I had to play as one of three people in a queue and repeat the phrase “relax, it will be over soon”. Our scenario consisted of a queue with 3 suspects; one being guilty of sexual assault. This pairs with the stimulus because only one character involved was guilty, but due to the circumstances we, like the other characters, also seemed guilty, it was the audience's task to then deduce that Kyle was actually guilty of the crime. As one of the suspects, I must have appeared intimidating so I frowned and looked at the audience with concern. When I repeated the phrase, I stated it forcefully and crudely to also suggest that I was angry. In terms of body language, I had my arms crossed and slouched as I walked forward in a selfless manner to show my disrespect and disinterest in being there. I also surveyed the room by looking around to show the audience that although I tried to appear intimidating, I was nervous and worried about being accused. As part of the performance, we used the exploratory strategy of thought tracking to disclose to our characters their individual feelings about their feelings. the situation. It was also used to confirm the guilt of Kyle's character. Thought tracking helped our performance because we were all able to communicate what our characters were feeling. Therefore, if it wasn't clear enough for the audience, they would be able to identify it more easily. It also allowed the audience to recognize who actually felt guilty and why, and, more importantly, it helped because it created a sense of dramatic irony by making the audience aware that Kyle's character was responsible, so that the rest of the character was in the role. the queue was unaware. It was important... middle of paper ... it was suspended or against. We also used a still image of the prison guards looking out at the audience to show that we had power over them because we were standing. and in anger, we showed him by crossing his arms, and the audience sat down, thus showing his lack of power and importance. We also used it right before Bentley (Josh) was hanged so the audience could see our facial expressions before he was hanged and then after he was hanged, which was ultimately meant to show a contrast in our feelings. Positive memory/handshake: our The stimulus for this performance was the idea of a positive memory. The task was to create a flashback to Derek Bentley's childhood that was somehow related to his situation when he was hanged. A handshake had to be included at some point in the performance, so we chose to do it just before he was hanged, which then triggered the flashback..
